The best part of being a YFAB Youth Board Member

YFAB youth advisory members share what has been the best part of being a member of YFAB so far.

“The best thing for me as a member of YFAB so far has been the connections I have made with so many different and wonderful people. I have always been the social one, but getting to actually know these people, be excited to see them again, and to learn from all kinds of different people really has been the cherry on top. On top of this is learning from the new people I meet. As a YFAB member I feel whenever we have events or meetings I am always learning something, whether that relates to YFAB or just life in general, it puts perspectives for me and I get to see and grow from new people all around me.”

  • Grace, Flowery Branch - Cherokee Bluff High School

“The best part about being in YFAB is the people. I love coming to the meetings and how much love everyone has for each other. Being able to be learning and building connections with people all over Georgia, has been an amazing opportunity and Maria has been amazing along the way. Relationships are a big part of my life and it's something that plays a big role in a group like this. Knowing I'm not being judged and feeling apart of something bigger than myself. “

  • Leilene, Lawrenceville GA - Discovery High School and Gwinnett Technical

“While I haven't been a member for very long, I think the best part about being a YFAB member has to be the people and the opportunities that come with being in YFAB. I wasn't always very involved in my community, so I really enjoy the fact that YFAB gives me different ways to get involved. While serving my community, I get to meet all different kinds of people. Everyone here has their own reason for being here and has their own story to tell. I have found that the more I interact with everyone, the more I grow as a person, and the more I learn about how to be a friend to those around me.”

  • Ana, Atlanta, GA - Georgia Tech Sophomore

The best part of being a member of YFAB has been becoming a part of the executive board and being involved in planning for our group meetings. It has given me the opportunity to gain leadership qualities, and it has taught me how to be speaker-oriented. I am still learning how to come out of my shell, and I am still practicing my communication skills. Overall I have learned how to be a leader in the community I was given the chance to be a part of. I've enjoyed hearing the input of other YFAB members as well and I'm really hoping to become more involved in person with our entire group as a whole.
